Sports Development Assistant appointed

At the start of March Hallam University student, James Bateman will be joining the Sheffield Hockey Club's HDO as an Assistant Development Officer. This is being carried out in partnership with Hallam University and is part of his course placement program.  The placement will last for 4 weeks.

The timing of the placement could not be more appropriate as at this time the Clubs current HDO is busy in the run up to the Olympics.  With two sets of hands it is hoped that both James and Sheffield Hockey Club will benefit greatly.

James will be taking part in the full HDO work program, this is a structured program set out by the Club and the outcomes are reported back to several co-ordinating groups.

Some of the tasks he will be helping out with are:

  • organising the Easter and Summer camps
  • Olympic taster sessions
  • Writing of grant applications
  • Coaching in local schools
  • Supporting the end of the Sportivate and Teacher Training programs.

This will be the first time that Sheffield Hockey Club has entertained a venture of this nature; however it is hoped that should this be successful it may become a more annual feature in the calendar to further develop the strong partnership between Sheffield Hockey Club and Hallam University.
