Hockey tournament raises over £1,200 for the James Brownhill Memorial Fund
28 November 2011

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that the Memorial Hockey Tournament held in memory of James Brownhill on Sunday 30th October at Abbeydale Sports Club raised over £1,200.
This impressive total will enable the James Brownhill Memorial Fund to continue to provide bursaries for a further 18 months. Thank you to everyone that made this possible.
Andy Tapley, President of Sheffield Hockey Club was at the event.
“I couldn’t let this event pass without saying how wonderful this day was, the support shown by the club was outstanding. We were blessed with great weather and to see so many people turn out from all levels within the club, past and present, was a tribute to the hard work done by Phil Parkes and his supporters, together with some great design and print from Andy Richards.
People who had played with James came from far and wide, both those who played for Sheffield and those who played in, managed and coached the Yorkshire and North East sides which he represented. For those of us who knew James for a large part of his all too short life, there is still pain but the way the day was organised, the spirit in which the games were played and the overwhelming sense of warmth from all who were at Abbeydale on Sunday afternoon was a marvellous recognition for James.
Sheffield Hockey Club has always been a great place for families and this was highlighted with three members of the Harrimans, three from the Sides family and three from the Tapleys all involved on the field of play. As always the Lobos were there both playing and supporting and countless other family groups. What also struck me was how many people had turned out from the club and elsewhere who had not known James, either at all or only briefly, but wanted to show their support and give generously.
To have raised over £1,200 is quite fantastic and greatly appreciated by the Brownhills.
This was Sheffield Hockey Club at its best, albeit in sad circumstances, thank you everyone for the efforts you made, you should all be very proud of what was achieved.
