New season for Sheffield Juniors begins on 11th September
11 September 2011

We’re really looking forward to what looks like to be a very full and interesting season and we can’t wait to welcome you all back onto the pitch! Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve got planned and some key dates for your diary.
Junior sessions
Coaching sessions will take place on Sunday mornings from 9:00am-12.00pm at Abbeydale.
Under 9: 9:00am-10:00am
U10 -U12 Girls and Boys: 9:00am-10:30am
U14-U16 Girls and Boys: 10:30am-12:00pm
YYHL
We have entered eight teams into the Yorkshire Youth Hockey Leagues for U10-U16 Girls and Boys. There are six match days for each team throughout the season.
This season the club is levying a £3 match fee per player for each match day.
The EH central calendar is available for download from this website, see policies and downloads.
Indoor
Yorkshire also plans to introduce indoor hockey sessions; these will be held in Bradford and will be after Christmas. Indoor hockey is a fast, exciting game that sadly fell into decline when artificial pitches with floodlights meant that we were able to play and train through the winter months. Over the past three years a lot of emphasis has been put back into the indoor game both at England and National League level.
Junior Umpiring
Some of you have already taken the Foundation Umpire Award, we would like to think that all of you have access to achieve this qualification by the end of the season should you wish to. We would also expect that those with an umpiring qualification would help out at least once during the season with the U12’s & possibly the U14 match days.
Senior Hockey
U14 & U16 players may receive an invitation from the Club Captain to train with the Senior section of the club on Tuesday or Thursday night, with an additional possibility that they are asked to play in senior matches at weekends.
Performance Juniors
In line with England Hockey’s Talent ID Programme, the Sheffield Hallam Performance Theme Group is planning to select a group of ‘Performance Juniors’ for additional coaching sessions under the guidance of our Centrally Contracted Coaches. This group will be selected by the Performance Coaches currently working in the clubs senior programme, with the age group coaches making their recommendations.
The ‘Junior Performance Training Group’ will be selected mid to late October and it is intended that these training sessions will replace, and not be in addition to, the players’ existing training commitments.
Communication
The Junior Exec will be using email as the preferred method of communication this season so please ensure that we have details of all e-mail addresses that we can use to send out details of matches, training etc.
Volunteering
Last but not least volunteer positions at the club are yet to be filled. If anyone is interested in being part of the junior campaign this season please refer to the vacancies tab of this website.
