Senior selection for Welsh pair
08 August 2011

More great international news with the recent announcement that Sheffield players Mike Shaw and Rhys Gowman have both been selected for the Senior Wales team who will compete in the EuroNations Championships II.
In the build up to the EuroNations in Vinnitsa, Ukraine from Monday 8th August the pair have travelled to Ireland and more recently Austria where they beat Austria 2-1 over a three test series. During this series Mike Shaw scored three times with three blinding drag flicks and Rhys Gowman finished superbly from open play.
Mike Shaw stated:
"To be selected for the Europeans with the Welsh senior team is an absolute honour, especially as one of the youngest and least experienced players in the squad. I believe I've developed as a player a lot last season at Sheffield thanks to the coaching provided and the quality of players around me. This has enabled me to achieve selection for my first major senior international tournament."
Rhys Gowman added:
"I'm delighted to have been picked to go to the Europeans with Wales, we've had a fairly positive summer as a team in terms of the quality of our performances. Hopefully we can finish the summer in style and get the job done out in the Ukraine. The experience I've gained this year at Sheffield has been invaluable and has definitely helped me in gaining selection for this competition."
The Club is delighted that both have been selected after an excellent season in their 1st year with Sheffield Hockey Club. We wish them the very best of luck and look forward to welcoming them back to Sheffield at the end of the tournament.
