James Brownhill

It is with great sadness that we are informing you all about the death of James Brownhill.

James was tragically killed in a climbing accident on the Frendo Spur Chamonix, France on July 1st, aged 22.

As many SHC members will know, James played Junior hockey with Sheffield; he was a Goalkeeper with the highly successful Junior teams in both Indoor and Outdoor national competitions for both Club and County. James was also a regular with the Mens 3's before going to Manchester Met University; from which he recently graduated as a Physiotherapist.

While at MMU James continued his hockey but also became a keen climber and sky diver. He was President of the sky diving club but climbing was his passion. He climbed in South America and Europe as well as in the UK and locally.

The club gives its sincere sympathy to James's family especially his parents, Gary and Chris, who supported the club extensively whilst James and his twin brother Joe were playing.

The James Brownhill Memorial Fund has been set up to support young people in outdoor sports. Donations can be made through the Mountain Training Trust, bank sort code 20-26-20, account number 40732176 with the reference James Brownhill.

There are also plans being made for a memorial hockey match between James's former Junior teammates and a SHC side in September.
