International representation for Sheffield Vets
04 July 2011

Following the recent Masters Over 45 Regional tournament at Cannock HC, which the North won convincingly with 5 wins and 1 draw, Rob Ward and former Sheffield player Jon Bray were invited to attend England trials at Oxford Hawks HC.
Unfortunately Robbie was unsuccessful for the 2nd year in succession but Jon was selected in a squad of 20 to play in the Home Nations in Northern Ireland in June, the European Championships in Germany in August and the World Masters in Singapore in October.
As well as being selected for the squad, Jon was also asked to Captain the team for the Home Nations in Belfast.
Jon has just returned from a successful tournament at Lisnagarvey HC where England retained the Over 45 Masters Trophy for a 6th consecutive year following victories over Scotland 4-1, Wales 8-1 and a very hard fought win against Ireland 2-1 after trailing 1-0.
Unfortunately Jon is unavailable for Germany and Singapore due to Single System JRPC commitments, but hopefully the foundations for further European and World success were laid with some Sheffield steel in Belfast.
Several other current and former Sheffield players have also been selected for international duty over the summer with Richard Yardley picked for the Over 60s, Nigel Land for the Over 40s and Liz McVey for the Ladies Over 50s.
