League Points Secured But Dumped Out The Cup.

Sheffield Hallam performed the classic smash and grab to nick a last minute winner against Leek last Saturday. New signing, Josh Darlington, was the hero with a close range tap in at the far post in the dying seconds of the game.

Sheffield Hallam were looking to register their first win in the the Men's Hockey League North Conference after a disappointing loss against Preston the week before. As the game wore on, and with the scores still level, Sheffield began to wonder whether or not this was going to be their day. Leek played a clever counter-attacking game and were often able to create opportunities in front of the Sheffield goal. However, Josh Parkinson, the Sheffield goalkeeper, was on top form to deny these chances.

Sheffield's chances were few and far between, with Liam brown and Scott Bristowe unlucky not to convert.

As the game entered the final stages Sheffield overcame their obvious frustration at not being able to score and started to find more and more space behind the tiring home defence. With Leek sensing an unlikely point, Adam Price released Liam Brown, who drove into the Leek shooting circle, pulling the ball back to Nick Mobbs who fired the ball towards goal, finding the stick of Darlington to win the game for Sheffield.

Josh Darlinton. Scored winner against Leek

After the jubilation of Saturday’s league victory, Sunday’s Cup game against Doncaster was a very different story. Sheffield took the blead after Adam Price deflected a penalty corner in to the roof of the net but then conceded two sloppy goals. Martin Sutherland pulled the sides level with an outstanding solo goal. In the second half Doncaster found themselves down to ten men after Tim Shelley was sent off for a second yellow card offence. However, despite being a man down, Doncaster retook the lead. Price netted for the second time in the match with a reverse stick strike but the visitors hit Sheffield on the break once more, earning, and then converting, a penalty stroke. They wrapped up a convincing victory with a penalty corner goal on the final whistle.

Adam Price scored two v Doncaster.

Next up for Sheffield Hallam are Olton and West Warwicks away tis coming Sunday.
