Moving up a division after our great performances in Adel was always going to be a challenge- not least because mid-term depleted the numbers available.
BU12B 2-1 W v Driffield 2 - GS: Poyner 1-F Chubb 1-F
Nevertheless Sheffield B started brightly against Driffield A and, thanks to goals from Mark Poynter and Matthew Chubb, ran out deserving 2-1 winners.
BU12B 0-0 D v Bridlington 1
Up next was a battle against Bridlington, which, with goal mouth action at both ends, ended surprisingly in a 0-0 draw.
Great defensive work by Oliver Haslam in goal, and George Clark and Charlie Purcell kept a determined Bridlington side out, which great inter passing between Jacob Giles, Alex Groeger and Mark Poyner made goals almost inevitable.
BU12B 0-4 L v Halifax 1
The pressure built still more in the next game when a very well organised Halifax A made life very difficult for our boys.
The losing margin of 0-4 seemed harsh in the light of the huge defensive effort.
BU12B 1-2 L v brigg 1 - GS: Giles 1-F
Last up were Brigg A, who seemed destined for promotion.
Sheffield took an early lead through Jacob Giles with a very calmly taken breakaway goal, but Brigg levelled with a spectacular goal a few minutes later. Great work in the centre by Stanley Sutton and a huge defensive effort make a draw seem likely, only for Brigg to claim the win with a late goal.
In the end the step up to the higher division proved just too much this time around, but with this skill, effort and commitment the boys can clearly compete at this level, and beyond.
In a day that our defence was very busy, George Clark and particular our keeper Oliver Haslam, were the stars of the day.
