Sheffield Hallam A Team U12 Boys Team in the YYHL Division A at Weetwood, Leeds
Another tournament in Leeds and the young boys still continue to develop well as a team.
BU12A 1-0 W v Leeds Adel 1 - GS: Jamie Rhodes 1-F
The first game saw the boys play against Leeds Adel who has just come up and we were unsure what to expect.
The boys seam to start very slow and at times must have thought they had forgotten about the additional hour in bed.
However, half way through the game saw the boys take the lead via some good passing in the D and saw Jamie Rhodes get his first goal for the U12s.
The boys kept playing some good hockey and came away with a win.
BU12A 6-0 W v City of York 1 - GS: Ethan Hindmarsh 3-F,F,F Jacob Russell 1-F Ben Shorter 2-F,F
Following some rest and a chat to the boys they were ready to play the next game verse York A, and unlike the first game they did start straight away and following 4 good passes from the start allowed a simple goal for Ethan Hindmarsh, following some good running down the wing via Sam Meadows, thus taking the lead within 10 seconds and not allowing York to see the ball.
Thus this set the boys up and they started to play some excellent hockey from defence through to attack, passing the ball around and not letting York get the ball.
The boys played some great hockey around the D thus allowing Ethan Hindmarsh to get a further 2 goals. The game continued well and following a great pass by Ben Shorter allowing Jacob Russell to slot home a well taken goal.
The rest of the game saw the boys pressing and were rewarded with a further 2 goals by Ben Shorter.
BU12A 1-3 L v Harrogate 1 - GS: Ethan Hindmarsh 1-F
The boys were next up against another of last year’s strong teams Harrogate A however following the draw the last time they met hopes were high.
The game started well for the boys with some great defence work by both Harrison Cundy and Peter Flathers who was backed up with some great saves by Harry Bones.
However despite this Harrogate took the lead, however the boys always step up to the mark and fought back well and thus were rewarded by a goal from Ethan Hindmarsh thus bringing the score level.
The game went from end to end, however following the whistle been blow and a “bully” been awarded saw some of the boys unsure where to stand and allowed Harrogate to break though and score thus take the lead.
The boys were then very unlucky to see Harrogate score a further goal despite some excellent defence works via Matthew Rhodes who ended up taking a blow to the head., thus the boys ended up with a loss.
BU12A 2-1 W v Ben Rhydding 1 - GS: Jamie Rhodes 1-F Sam MEadows 1-F
The last game saw the boys playing against a very strong Ben Rhydding team who very quickly took demand of the game and scored.
However, this led the boys to play the best hockey of the day and it was a pleasure to watch the skills of all the boys and some of the passing and ball control was great thus they game back to level the score via a Jamie Rhodes goal.
Sheffield continued to frustrate Ben Rhydding and played as they can and took the lead via a well taken goal by Sam Meadows thus the boys ended the game securing the win.
Another great tournament for the boys and ending runner up to Harrogate A.
Players of the day were Harry Bones who pulled of some great saves to keep Sheffield in the game against Ben Rhydding and Leeds Adel and Peter Flathers for some excellent passing and positional play.
