The start of the new season and it was like mid-summer and the boys were ready to start where they ended last season with some good hockey had been played.
The first game saw the boys play against Thirsk A and started well and it was not long before the first goal went in via some excellent skills down the left hand side by Max Wilson who found himself in a one on one with the GK and placed it into the side of the goal.  The boys continued to play some good hockey and moving the ball around and were rewarded by a further goal which was well taken by Jacob Russell.  The boys continued to drive forward and passing the ball well with some good tackling thus saw Ben Shorter take a further two goals following some good play by Sam Meadows. Thus the boys came off with a 4 -0 win.
Next game was played against last year’s YYHL winners Harrogate and from the start the boys played well despite some high levels of pressure from Harrogate. Throughout the game the boys played there normal game however could not breakdown Harrogate. As the game went on Harrogate put further pressure on Sheffield however with good defending by Peter Flathers and Harrison Cundy backed up by Harry Bones they could not score thus a well earned draw.
Following this came the boys were next up against another of last year’s strong teams Ben Rhydding however the boys were ready and took an early lead following some good passing thus setting up Ethan Hindmarsh to slot home a goal to take the lead. The game continued to be played a high pace and following a great through ball from Ben Shorter through to Jacob Russell who took a shot only to see the keeper save it.  Following this, Ben Rhydding stepped up the pace and were rewarded with a goal to bring the score level.  Sheffield kept playing some good hockey however Ben Rhydding came through and scored 2 further goals, thus Sheffield came off with a loss.
The last game saw the boys playing the best hockey verses Harrogate B of the day with the whole team getting involved with the goal of the day been scored by Ben Shorter following a great pass out from Harrison Cundy in defence to Jacob Russell who despite been the smallest player on the pitch very quickly went around 2 players and set up the goal for Ben Shorter. The next goal came from some great skills from Alex Flint who set up Ethan Hindmarsh to score from close range.  The last 5 minutes saw the boys spending most of the time in the Harrogate B half with Ben Shorter scoring 2 more goals before the final whistle.
A great start to the season for the boys with 2 wins a draw and a loss.
Player of the day was Harry Bones who pulled of some great saves.
