CARDS: GREEN: Vicky Lomas, Jemima Board
It is always best to play university sides early season and it was good to get this difficult fixture out of the way.
Hallam dominated from the start, moving the ball around with pace and confidence. A few half chances came and went before Jemima Board robbed a defender a put in a powerful cross whih just evaded Sandie Lockleys stick on the far post. Sandie was in the same position two minutes later to make no mistake on 9 minutes, 1-0. Hallam continued to keep possession without creating anything clear cut until Jemima doubled the lead on 18 minutes with a neat finish. Durham gradually got into the game and scored a very scrappy penalty corner on 32 minutes which the defending unit have to be disappointed with. Half-time 2-1.
In the second half Hallam regained their mojo and regained control, with the half backs especially adding to the attacking impetus to a team which like s to go forward. A flurry of cards to both sides saw Jemima and Vicky Lomas take two minute breaks. On 53 minutes an excellent through ball found Jemima on the 23 and another powerful run ended with her being brought down in the D by the last defender. The experienced Kath Hughes made no mistake from the spot. Hallam could have extended the lead in the final ten minutes but Durham held out. Full Time 3-1.
