W4 3-0 W v Wakefield 5
Natalie Hinchcliffe 1-PC Sarah Johnson 27-F Emma Dickson 48-F
After slightly late (and soggy) start Sheffield Ladies 4s instantly applied pressure on the opposition and were awarded with a short corner in the first five minutes of the match. A lovely goal from Nat gave Sheffield the advantage early on, with Sheffield having slightly more possession in the first half. There were several great leads from Hana up the wing, with some beautiful crosses not quite meeting the mark. Finally efforts paid off as she picked out Sarah who slotted the ball in from the back post. Great positional play. Several more attempts on goal were made by all the forwards.
Whenever the opposition dared to cross into the Sheffield half Ciara always seemed to be there channelling them away from direct attacks and regularly stealing the ball from them. Lucy and Maddy both displayed suburb balls skills – making a strong midfield that was difficult to penetrate. Sandra got in some great positions as centre mid and her long corners were excellent with the forwards putting the ‘stacking’ practiced in training to good effect, foxing the opposition defence completely.
Wakefield came out aggressively at the start of the second half, but great defensive play from the backs Rachel and Cathyrn, not to mention Caitlyn (our goalie who’d thankfully and brilliantly stepped in last minute!), meant that their efforts were in vain. Sophie showed some great defensive play and kept her calm and Karen, as always, was solid as a rock in defence.
Numerous breaks from the mids and forwards soon brought play back into the opposition D and Rachel came across the half way line again- for the second match in a row!
A fantastic goal from Emma on her debut for the club brought the score to 3-0, with cheers of “well done Mummy” from her (adorable) fans! Jen nearly decapitated the opposition in her efforts to add the haul (accidently of course- the pitch was slippy!), but it wasn’t to be.
Lucy was voted girl of the game with Ciara a close second. Fantastic effort made by all who played.
