Well what another outstanding performance by Sheffield 4s!!

Sheffield started with a very positive team talk led by captain Rachel Harvey. All the players were fired up and ready for a tough battle on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon. Sheffield had the first push back of the game. Straight from the off every single Sheffield player was marking tightly and fighting for the ball. Sheffield had the majority of the possession and earned multiple long corners at the beginning of the first half. At this point of the game the play was just outstanding. When Rotherham had the ball the defence work solidly together to ensure the ball didn't get into our 'D'. Jenny the goal keeper was very vocal and took charge of the defence. Rachel, Cathryn and Sophie didn't see too much of the ball in the first half but when they did they used their skills to tackle and get the ball out wide to Maddy, Lucy and Karen. From there the midfield players used their pace to hold the ball and release accurate passes.

Sandra was centre mid for Sheffield and played some tremendous balls out wide to the speedy Hannah, Izzy and Sarah. Ciara was also an important member of the attack and fantastic at picking the balls off the oppositions’ sticks. The pace, accuracy, dribbling and determination throughout the whole game from these four players was just superb. Becky used her strength to hold the ball up and passed the ball out wide to which created more chances. She was in a very determined mood!

After around 25 minutes of dominating the game Sheffield‘s first goal of the game came from an attack which started from the back with Lucy Stern. Throughout the whole game Lucy used her skills to roll out and feed the ball to an attacking player. Her passing was strong and accurate. The ball was then passed forward to Natalie who skilfully won the team a short corner. Natalie pushed the ball to Becky at the top of the 'D' and Becky went for a straight strike. Izzy was on hand to to deflect the ball into the back of the net just like she has been practicing at training for a number of weeks.  After the many opportunities Sheffield hadn’t managed to convert this first goal was greeted with huge relief and excitement.

The whistle was then blown for half time. 1-0 Sheffield

After a brief but positive half time talk from Rachel the players were raring to get back on the pitch. Sheffield began the second half as the first ended -  every player was fighting for the ball and there was great encouragement from all on the pitch and the spectators on the side-line. Jenny had a few important saves to make and carried out her goal keepers role brilliantly. Our defence broke down the Rotherham attack extremely quickly which allowed us to brake with the ball.

The second goal was created by Natalie who made a run down the right wing into the circle. Natalie fired the ball at the goal which hit the post. Becky was in the perfect position (where she had been for much of the game) to push the rebound into the back of the net. From the second goal the opportunities in attack continued to increase as confidence grew. The possession was all Sheffield's.

Even Rachel made a foray into the attacking half, having intercepted a Rotherham pass. However, it was soon passed on to the more skilled attacking players once she realised where she was on the pitch!

The third goal came from another piece of attacking play which resulted in a short corner being awarded to Sheffield. Natalie pushed the ball out to Becky at the top of the circle who slipped it left to Hana. Hana had nothing else on her mind than hitting the ball straight into the back of the net: the strike was perfectly placed.

Rotherham then decided to alter their formation and play 3 in defence and move their more experienced players into more forward positions.  However, there was no panic and the midfield and defence continued to dispossess the opposition of the ball and reverse the direction of play.

The final goal came from a Rotherham hit out that was intercepted by Natalie. Natalie used her dribbling skills to get passed two players and once in the 'D' took a strike and slotted the ball under the keeper to score the fourth goal.

The final score was 4-0 to Sheffield with Izzy and Natalie tying for girl of the game. An amazing result and effort by all the Sheffield 4s as the team continues to improve. Well played everyone!!!
