Another excellent win for the Ladies’ 4s.
Early attacks by the Ladies 4s bought no reward. Short corners for both teams were defended out with Sheffield generally on top.
There were several chances for Sheffield but feet got in the way (on both sides!).
Another short corner was awarded, and Rachel Meade converted the opportunity into a goal with a lovely reverse stick sweep to bring Sheffield one nil up.
A short time later Chris Burgin slid in to score the second.
A Huddersfield advantage just before half time cost a goal. 2-1 at half time.
It was a good start to the second half.
Following a quick break from Jen Smith the pass made to Nat Hinchcliffe resulted in a one on one with the goalie and another goal.
Sheffield 3 Huddersfield 1.
Despite several short corners against Sheffield, the defence held off Huddersfield.
A speedy break from Chris Burgin led to a good attack from Sheffield.
After play switched across the pitch the ball fell to Jen Smith on the right, who drove it into the D and crossed the ball, the shot was deflected over the keeper to give Sheffield another goal.
After this Huddersfield applied more pressure.
More short corners were awarded to the visitors but Sheffield’s defence remained strong.
Sheffield once again pushed forward but with limited reward until Rachel Meade had an opportunity at the back post.
However, the Huddersfield players managed to defend it successfully.
Nat Hinchcilffe then set up Chris Burgin, who found herself sliding again to knock the ball in. 5-1.
Ruined skins and bruised/cut knees to show for her commitment!
Sheffield continued to pressure with Nat Hinchcliffe being unlucky not to score a 6th with several shots saved by the opposition keeper.
Unfortunately Huddersfield broke and scored in the last 5 minutes.
A green card given (seen as dissent) just before final whistle was the only dampener the team’s high spirits as the final whistle blew.
Final score Sheffield 5- Huddersfield 2.
