The Ladies 4s got an early wake-up call on a crisp autumn morning against Leopold with an opposition goal within the first three minutes. Leopold seemed to dominate possession in the first half, with several short corners and a beautifully placed second goal just inside the post. As the half progressed the team became more organised and started getting more of the possession. Excellent defensive play held to score to 2-0 at half time.
The half team talk was very positive and encouraging as, after the first 15 minutes or so of the first half, the team started getting more of the ball and showing what we were capable of. Energy levels picked up as did the temperature when we got back onto the pitch for the second half. There was lots of excellent play, running with the ball and some great passing with lots of encouragement from both team mates and spectators.
The younger players must get a special mention as they ‘sprant’ enthusiastically up and down the pitch. It was a very exciting half with much less defending required and there were many forays into the D. Unfortunately, Leopold scored an amazing and unstoppable third goal from a short corner which entered the goal about an inch below the crossbar. Congratulations from both teams to this scorer were well deserved.
Special mention to Phil, our player the match! Team captain Rachel praised the team for playing some of the best positional play of the season so far. There were so many positives to take away from the match and the team continues to develop on a weekly basis. Final result: Sheffield ladies 0 – Leopold 3.
