GS: Sarah Picker 1-F Kareema Hilton 1-F Helen Burland 1-F
Good solid defeat of tenacious Doncaster independent.
Game didn't start well when Steph Mather overslept her alarm and stand in Marni Greig (second time ever) was trying to pad up just before the start of play. The game got going and despite the lack of qualified goalie the play was all Sheffield throughout. There were a few nerves on the forward line as without Sam Casson it was going to fall to Kareema Hilton, Helen Burlend, Skye Thompson Moore and Sarah Picker to fill the big shoes of our super goal scorer.
It didn't take long for the first goal to go in courtesy of a sarah picker strike and then the nerves began to settle. There were only a few forays for Doncaster over the half line and the score could have been more had the numerous crosses of Skye Thompson Moore been intercepted and deflected into the net. There were also numerous near misses with the ball going just wide of the post and Sheffield were trying to work the p spot for the best angle. The second half was more of the same with the midfielders Nancy Wellman, Tomi Hafferty Miriam Hides and Lucy Telling dispossessing the oppo and sending the ball back up to the forward line. The second half was set alight by perfect positioning and timing on the left post first by Kareema Hilton scoring a perfect team goal, and then by a powerful one touch strike of Helen Burlend which again found the back of the net.
It sounds like the full backs had little to do but by pushing up Chris Clarke or Rachel Spooner and by using the wing backs Lucie Monfredi, Jemima Mawson and Amy Drummond as an extra attacker on the ball side we had an unbeatable attack.
Did I touch the ball as goal keeper. Luckily only once- And I managed to keep my all time keeping record clean for another game- phew. Eventual win 3-0. Girl of the game- Chris Clarke, 3way tie for second- Kareema Hilton, Miriam Hides, Sarah Picker
