GS: Emmy Beeby 3-F,F,F Sam Casson 1-F Lauren Bell 1-F Sarah Picker 1-F
We took to the pitch at the dale, on Saturday the 10th of October to play local rivals Bankers ladies 3s, in front of a much larger than normal home crowd of at least 20 people to keep our our only consistent supporter Gerry Telling company.
The start was nervy for both sides and neither side looked on top. Chris Clarke was making excellent interceptions on the right half and redistributing the ball, but we were coming a bit unstuck passing to the forward line. It took some individual brilliance by Sam Casson to break the deadlock as she shimmied past several bankers players, making them look absolutely flat footed in the contest.
The first goal was scored by Emmy Beeby and then bankers stepped it up a gear and we were suddenly trying to stop breakaways. Amy Drummond and goalie Sophie Tomlinson making brilliant back line saves. Soon after bankers replied with a well worked short corner, which hit an unlucky deflection and into the goal. Our heads did not go down and Tomi Hafferty, Nancy Wellman and captain Hannah Mcmellon were feeding the ball straight to Emmy Beeby and Miriam Hide on the right wing and suddenly the game shifted again. A brilliant solo run by Emmy in the last part of the first half put the Hallam girls in front.
The second half started at a frenetic pace and the girls were breaking away down the left through Lucy Telling, Jemima Mawson and Sarah Picker. Nancy Wellman controlled the centre beautifully and calmy and Marni Greig and Steffi O'Brien and defender Kareema Hilton had a bit to do as bankers inners upped the tempo again. Then our persistent pressure on the goalie and the bankers back line started to pay off after Sam Casson showed her class, consistently slicing the bankers midfield wide open and then making a perfectly timed pass to Lauren Bell who was in a great position to slam the ball into the back of the net and score. Soon after Emmy Beeby got her hat-trick by scoring in the second half, a brilliant finish by Sam Casson repaid all her hard work in the game and a brilliant deflection by Sarah Picker also beat the keeper. Final score: a very satisfying 6-1. We dedicate our win to Gerry Telling and his under 18 transport bus. C'mon reds!!
