The day started with a Search Party for the missing goalie. Sally Rawlings and Hannah Burlinson were greeted at the door of Steph Mathers house by a very blurry eyed and tired Steph. Meanwhile in the changing rooms little Munro Hilton was practicing his kissing in the mirror and throwing money at Nicola Cox while she got changed!
The game started pretty quickly and it was clear that Brigg meant business. Sheffield didn't get much time on the ball but we kept our heads and within the first 10 minutes Sophie Spedding had crack off a shot, the goalie rebounded straight to the P spot where Michelle Longson was ready and waiting to score the first goal! The next goal came within the next 5 minutes from great press work Shell was able to smash the ball straight into the D from the half way line to give Katie Harvey a great deflection as practiced in training! The third goal came from Katie after a battle in a crowded D by placing the ball between the keepers legs. The fourth goal was scored scored by Fran Hoyland who found herself alone in the D with the keeper! The ball was given to her by Speds who made a great run down the line and pinged the ball from the baseline to Fran who smacked it behind the keeper into the backboard.
The first half ended 4-0 to Sheffield.
At half time the L2s were greated by praise from the usual grumpy Phil Butler. This shocked the girls and gave them the positive mental attitude that kept them in game zone for the 2nd half!
Play continued and it was clear Brigg were getting desperate but with the cool heads of the ladies Sheffield were able to make some great transfers around the back and up the wings. Everytime Brigg tried to make a break Shell appeared out of nowhere with perfect tackles, not allowing the ball into Sheffields half of the pitch!
Unfortunally Brigg were able to get it past the defensive barracade and after a 1 on 1 with Steph they just managed to roll it over the line.
The final goal came again from Fran who smashed it from the top of the D. The keeper managed to get a stick on it but was no match for the powerful shot.
A great game all round even with Olivia Rawlinson getting a Green Card for her fantastic superman dive.
The game ended 5-1 to Sheffield.
MOM - Shell - very well deserved for some exceptional hockey.
DOD - Steph - for not setting her alarm, waking up after the 3s match she should of been playing had started and generally worrying the team!
Well done ladies! Great result and fantastic hockey!!
