GS: Matt White 1-F Andy Robinson 1-F
A long awaited return to the hallowed plastic of Abbeydale for the 8ths who so far have played 6 of their 7 games away. Last week, captain Rees regailed the lads pre match with tales of Winter Green and other famous brassicas.
A no repeat this week ensured all players were fully awake for the start of the game! Worksop had a bare eleven and Sheffield started well pressing on several occasions in the early exchanges.
No surprise then when Sheffield scored with Matt White forcing the ball home after a scramble.
The reaction of several Worksop players to the awarding of the goal was pretty poor with the unfortunate umpire taking an amount of abuse.
Within five minutes, the visitors were on level terms after keeper Rees misjudged a softish shot.
That was the score at half time, and Worksop were down to ten after one of their players was struck on the foot by a Sheffield free hit and was unable to play on.
In the second half, Sheffield had much of the play with Lumb playing well and Robinson prompting from midfield, but too many passes went astray and a draw seemed likely.
With minutes to go Sheffield were awarded what appeared to be, a rather fortunate short corner. Robinson pushed out and as the Worksop defenders ran out, Hardy passed back to the corner taker who drilled the ball home.
A Robinson goal is as rare these days as a hen's tooth, and it's arrival won the game for Sheffield.
This had been a poor disjointed game, but the result was deserved if only because the home team had had so much possession.
