M8 did win 8-6 but result removed from league after Rortherham 4 withdrew from the league due to lack of players
GS: Richard Yardley 4-F,F,F,F Martin Mannion 1-F Nick Bettles 1-F Pete Frost 2-PC,PC
Another glorious Saturday saw Sheff looking for their opening league win against Rotherham. The task seemed to be easier than expected when Rotherham arrived without goalkeeping equipment, meaning they had to play with a kicking back. Indeed Sheffield started brightly and perceptive passes from Robinson put Yardley and Mannion in for early goals. Rotherham fought hard, but by half time were 3-0 down, with Yardley again doing the damage. It could however, and should have been better still, but too often Sheffield's forwards chose to plough lone furrows rather than pass to better placed colleagues.
The wasted chances came back to haunt Sheffield as Rotherham got it back to 3-2 early in the second half. There then followed an astonishing 20 minutes of play where every time Sheffield scored to force a two goal lead, Rotherham scored shortly after to reduce the deficit to one goal. Nine goals were scored in this spell, with the Sheffield scorers being Yardley (2), Frost (2), and Bettles. The game ended 8-6 to Sheffield, so a good win, but it was squeaky bum time on several occasions!
