GS: Matt White 1-F
MoM: Liam Cottingham
This was a fine performance from a Sheffield team that boasted both youth and experience. Sheffield started the game well and never let up.Matt White was both fast and tricky, on the wing. Kip Ward and Freddie Ward were industrious and skilful in midfield, and Zack Lovell worked really hard up front.. It was no surprise when the reds took the lead although the goal was a scrambled affair, finally tucked away by Matt White. Sheffield continued to play well, striking the bar and being thwarted on several occasions by the excellent Wakefield keeper. Sheffield won most of the fifty fifties with Nick Bettles working hard in midfield, and some opposition players became somewhat frustrated, regularly challenging umpiring decisions.
The reds continued to play well, and with a smile on their faces, encouraging one another throughout, and enjoyed loads of quality possession. Wakefield did come back in to the match late on with Jan Rees making a fine save to deny a forward a goal. With three minutes to go, the home team grabbed a goal that they probably didn't deserve. A mis hit shot deceived Rees in goal and his defenders and the ball trickled over the line. So a 1-1 draw was how it ended, but a great performance by the 8ths, who worked hard for one another and played the game in the right spirit. Excellent performances all across the park, but I felt that Liam Cottingham edged it as man of the match.
