GS: Nigel Ward 1-F
CARDS: GREEN: Paul Hardy
The 8ths travelled to Slazengers to play a team below them in the league. Hopes were high that a win would be achieved, and in spite of perishing weather, Sheffield made a bright energetic start with Paul Hardy and Andy Robinson creating several good chances that were spurned by the forwards.
Sheffield were well marshalled at the back by Ian Richards and rarely looked like conceeding a goal.
Half time arrived with the game goal less. In the second half Slazengers had more of the game and half way through scoredfrom a penalty flick.
Sadly Sheffield then fell away a little and Slazengers were able to get two more goals, and then a fourth goal after the award of a somewhat controversial penalty flick.
This decision greatly incensed Richard 'Hold Me Back Or I'll Have Him' Danson who went nose to belly button with the tallest opponent on the pitch.
After the intervention of Messrs Cottingham and Robinson calm was quickly restored, and from the re start Sheffield scored a deserved goal through Nigel Ward who showed great perseverance in scoring.
Sadly it was too little too late. Still, this was a good game of hockey which Sheffield could and should have won.
At last, next week, the 8ths return for a home match after playing five of seven, so far, away.
To slightly misquote Tom Jones, "It will be good to see the blue, blue grass of home!"
Meantime, don't be surprised to hear this week that Vladimir Klitschko has accepted a fight with Richard Deadly Danson!
My money would be on Deadly as long as he can reach high enough to punch above Vladimir's belt!
