The 8ths travelled to league leaders Hull in good spirits thanks to two wins in their last two games.
They arrived in good time only to find, bizarrely, that there are two Sirius Academies in Hull and that whilst they were at the south Hull site, the game was at the north Hull site.
There followed a drive through a busy city centre, which left little time for warming up and inspirational team talks, on arrival!
The hosts were a hard working team who opened the scoring ten minutes in when the umpire awarded a short corner to Hull, a decision which seemed a little questionable.
And then something happened that is rarely seen in Div 6 South, Hull converted the corner with a drag flick in to the top corner.
We shall now be practising these in our respective gardens, this week.
Ten minutes later Andy Robinson deftly deflected the ball in to the net for a super goal.
Sadly it was in to his own net, rather than the Hull one.
The lads reached half time 2-0 down but in good spirits.
In the second half the Sheffield defence grafted and frustrated Hull on many occasions, special mentions going to Ian Richards, Andy Robinson,Jan Rees and Liam Cottingham.
Hull were able to score a third when keeper Rees made a fine save only for the ball to squirm under his body, leaving a grateful Hull forward with a tap in.
Hull made it 4-0 with the last hit of the game, but this had been a decent performance from our bare eleven, who worked hard, supported and encouraged one another and played the game with a smile on their respective faces.
Good tea in the pub after as well.
Next week Slazengers away.
So far that's five away games and two at home.
I for one am beginning to forget what the beautiful blue of Abbeydale looks and feels like!
