GS:Phil Lumb 2-F,F CARDS: GREEN: Paul Hardy
Hinde House, can often be a windswept and wild location, but not so on Saturday. The sun shone for the start of the 8ths away game at Chapeltown, a match which started 30 minutes or so late, because of delays during earlier matches. The 8ths started well with John Tidy controlling the defence, Andy Robinson and Boggles running midfield and Phil Lumb and Martin Manion rolling back the years up front. It was no surprise when Phil Lumb put Shrffield in front after 20 minutes. The surprise came when Chapeltown scored twice before half time, as the game had appeared to be Sheffield's for the taking.
In the second half Sheffield pushed forward from the start and were camped in the Chapeltown half for long periods. With 20 minutes to go Phil Lumb scored again and the away team sensed a rare away win could be on the cards. New man Elliott Wilson provided some fine wide play, with Robinson, Harper and Hardy driving the midfield forward. However, despite having all the play, the lads could not get the winner their play deserved. Still a good point against a decent Chapeltown team who were, as ever, courteous and hospitable after the game. Finally, but very importantly, a huge word of praise for our umpire, Ollie Ashdown. A new club member and first team player, his officiating was first class, but more importantly to our team, he was happy to socialise with us after the game.Well done Ollie, you were a star and we would love you to officiate for us, as often as you can in weeks to come.
