A much-changed team again this week, as many of our players were promoted to the 6’s, so it meant a debut for two new players: We had been upping the average age of the team recently, so why not bring in a couple more players from the development team to adjust the balance? Come in, Ethan Barron and Alastair Haslam!
We started very brightly, pressing the Bankers defenders and moving the ball smoothly around the pitch. It was a bit of a breakaway that brought Bankers the first goal, when their forward fortuitously played a one-two off Andy Robinson’s foot before shooting home.  Our equaliser came from a great passing move down the left involving Oliver Jones, Freddie Ward and Kris Woolhouse, seeing Matthew Dewhurst finish off with a cool finish.  However, Bankers were soon back in front again before half time, and then took a two-goal lead from a short corner soon after the break.
This only served to galvanise our team. A delightful Freddie Ward pass set Matthew Dewhurst away and he scored his second of the afternoon. Now the play was almost exclusively in Bankers half as we pressed for another goal. Ethan Barron was tormenting some veteran defenders with his close control, and Alastair Haslam was causing so much difficulty that he had to be muscled out of the game with a couple of crude challenges.  As we pressed further and further up the pitch, we needed a couple of smart saves from Oscar Spooner when the home side broke away.
Just as it seemed time had run out, further pressure on the bankers’ defence caused a defender to dally on the ball at the top of the D: Abi Mohanamurali robbed him and calmly stroked home the equaliser. A worthy reward for an impressive performance by the team. Rotherham next!
