SLAIN BY SLAZENGERS
Another awayday in Yorkshire, another defeat for the battling Sevens, finding life a little tougher these days in the higher division. With several changes to last week’s team, it took time to settle into our game, and the opposition were much quicker off the mark, as has happened a few times this year. We conceded an early goal, before we could mount any reasonable attack ourselves, and then managed to make life even more difficult for ourselves as fearless goalkeeper, Oscar Jepson, launched himself into a tackle only to take out our own left half, Matt Smart. In the confusion, Slazengers stuck the ball into the empty net to go further ahead. Matt left the field with the help of his teammates and set off to hospital with a damaged knee. Get well soon, Matt!
By half time we were feeling that we could actually get something from the game, as we started to put together some good moves. It would have been helpful not to have conceded again one minute into the second half, but we stuck gamely to our task, and came close ourselves on a number of occasions, when crosses eluded our onrushing attackers. From several short corners, we were unable to break through, and then conceded a fourth from Slazengers only short corner of the game.
Back to Abbeydale next week, and hopefully a change of fortune, especially with increased availability of key players.
