GS: Tom Woodruff 3-F,F,F Kristian Woolhouse 1-F

A game full of attacking enterprise at Abbeydale in the early morning game on Saturday: Sheffield Hallam 7’s got off to a slow start against the early season league leaders and free-scorers, Doncaster.  The visitors’ marauding forwards were soon making their skills tell as they raced into a 2-goal lead.  The
Doncaster surging runs continued, helped by a propensity on our behalf to let them approach our D without challenge. We soon found ourselves further behind as another two goals rattled the backboard.
However, our attacking moves had been promising, and just before halftime Tom Woodruff managed to get one back. Seconds later, and it was 4-2, with Tom scoring again with a fierce reverse-stick shot.

As the second half started, Doncaster appeared disconcerted by our comeback, and we were competing well all over the pitch, with a  particularly tenacious performance by Freddie Ward in midfield. Luke Russell, Kip Ward and Jamie McKane were linking well on the right, and Matt Dewhurst and Kristian Woolhouse were doing their best to unlock the visitors’ defence on the left. When Tom Woodruff scored his third goal, we were starting to believe we might eventually level the scores, but it was Doncaster who scored again to make it 5-3. A foot on the line following a short corner gave Doncaster a chance to extend their lead, but Oscar Jepson was equal to the penalty flick with a great save. However, it wasn’t long before Doncaster were once again pressing , and managed to slot home a sixth goal. The scoring didn’t end there , as we came back once again, and from a well-worked short corner, Kristian Woolhouse flicked in at the far post to close the game at 6-4.
