GS: Mark Mobbs 1-F ?? 1-PC Assist: Joe Horne
Sheffield’s 3rd team hosted a Bradford side containing several skilful young players. The visitors played a high energy pressing game, quickly closing down and tackling whilst Sheffield’s decision making frequently let them down. The home team took the lead following a bizarre crossfield aerial pass from the Bradford left back. Mark Mobbs intercepted and coolly lobbed the ball past the ‘keeper. Bradford equalised soon afterwards when their forward cut across the D and smashed a reverse shot past Keiran Bedford. The half finished 1-1.
Sheffield were confident of raising their game but the second half followed a similar pattern to the first. As in the first half, Sheffield struck first. Joe Horne’s shot from a penalty corner was touched in at the right hand post. Sheffield then conceded a succession of soft penalty corners. These were successfully repelled but Bradford equalised from close range following a powerful cross. Bradford were reduced to 10 players for the final few minutes of the game when one of their defenders picked up a yellow card for a clumsy challenge. Tim Baker came agonisingly close to securing all three points from close range from a penalty corner awarded in the dying seconds.
