The first half if the season finished against Loughborough Students with Sheffield succumbing to the league leaders by three goals to one. Earlier in the season, Sheffield were pumped 7-1 by the students and so were determined to put up a good performance. This was additionally important after the dismal showings against the likes of Lichfield and Preston.
With the weather more akin to that seen on Discovery channel's "Worlds Weirdest Weather", the team's took to the pitch for this encounter. Throughout the first half Sheffield match their visitors with Andrew Jackson a worthy winner of Man of the Match, making tackle after tackle. Although the first half was nearly done, it was the home side who scored first after food work by Ollie Ashdown down the left. He found Joe Booth on the base line who neatly played the ball to James Legg who flicked the ball high into the net.
Unfortunately for Sheffield, the lead they took in to the half time break lasted only four minutes in to the second half. Neat play by Loughborough cut open the home defence to level. They took the lead, inevitable it was through a penalty corner. Loughborough stretched their lead with a near post deflection which will have annoyed Simon Hujwan in the Sheffield goal.
So it finished 3-1 and with other results going against Sheffield, the team find themselves seventh in the table. There are eight games left which will recommence on 30th January. Members of the squad will now turn their attention to the indoor programme, with Sheffield making their debut in National Division One.
